DID
YOU
KNOW?

Did you know that engineering fees account for less than 1% of the lifecycle cost of a project?

The remaining ~99% of costs are comprised of construction/renovation costs and overall business operating costs that are incurred once the space or building is occupied (staff, financing, rent, stock/product, utilities, maintenance, etc.)

Therefore, selecting an engineer for your project based on fees alone, without taking into account specialized training and experience, places a great deal of importance on what is a relatively minor cost over the life of your business / building / operation.

LET'S TALK FEES

FIXED fee

I am able to provide clients with a fixed fee on projects where the engineering scope of work is known (i.e. the path from ‘point A’ to ‘point B’ is well defined).

HOURLY fee

In cases where a project’s end goals are well defined, but the engineering scope of work necessary to achieve those goals is unknown, hourly services are recommended. For example:

  •  +Projects with unique technical challenges
  •  +Projects subject to third party approvals, such as building inspectors
  •  +Projects that are investigative in nature
  •  +In cases where unanticipated engineering requirements arise
  •  +Large mechanical renovation or retrofit projects
  •  +The construction phase of most projects

When there is scope uncertainty, hourly fees make the most sense and provide the best value.

COMBINATION fee

Most projects have two distinct phases: DESIGN and CONSTRUCTION.

A typical combination fee would utilize a FIXED fee for design phase services and an HOURLY fee for construction phase services.
